How Fashion Designers Are Adapting to the Pandemic

Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs, Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta, and many other big brand names that usually present their collections throughout New York Fashion Week are all remaining this season. The void in the September calendar has left designers rushing to choose how to present their spring lines. Do they mount an in-person outdoor presentation– or go the virtual path? What about shooting a digital look book? Hosting personal consultations? Or maybe something various, like a discussion? There are numerous alternative paths to take, but some New York Fashion Week stalwarts just couldnt keep away this season. “Anything that can bring happiness and goal in these times is a fantastic thing,” states production designer Stefan Beckman. “There is no replacement for the live performance, but you can still do something and have a little number of guests but also shoot it in an innovative way. Everyone else can be a part of the experience.” Home enhancement mecca Lowes tapped designers Jason Wu and Christian Siriano to provide furniture and decor for their in-person programs utilizing products from the brands website. “I thought Jasons program was a standout thanks to its seamless staging,” says fashion expert Robert Burke. “It was wise of Jason to take this chance, and he actually went for it creatively.
